Ben Joosten

September 16, 2019 Ray Nichols

A wonderful little film we found on iBookBinding.com about BEN JOOSTEN which contributes to our interest in the work of H.N. WERKMAN. The film is in Dutch, but there are wonderful non-interview segments showing his work and the things around him. Here is a link to the page with the film.

The following list indicates points in the film just before various non-interview segments start that relates to Ben’s work. There are other bits of film that are also fun, so watch it all.

  • 1:32 - 1:45 preparing to pour hot metal

  • 2:02 - 2:35 lifting the hot metal

  • 2:55 - 3:16 pouring the molten hot metal + letterpress print

  • 4:12 - 4:38 acres of wood type

  • 4:48 - 5:07 hand cranking a cylinder press

  • 6:01 - 6:25 drummer + letterpress print

  • 7:07 - 7:10 letterpress print of landscape (?)

  • 7:20 - 8:01 letterpress print from wood furniture + other prints + Ben and Emily(?) with a wheelbarrow of stones

  • 8:28 -9:28 lockup + rolling a letterpress print

  • 9:38 - 9:49 carrying someone on a stretcher

  • 10:05 - 10:16 - letterpress print of marching soldiers

  • 10:32 - 11:24 woman discussing prints with Ben

  • 11:41 - end pulling a print on a really large unseen press + his studio

I’ll try to find some time to add some information to this page.
